Its goal is to strengthen relations between research generated in France and approaches taken around the world, going beyond the principle of international comparison, and to engage in interdisciplinary discussions on cities. How especially can we consider it in these times of violence and of concern over our ability to live together in harmony?Ĭreated in the autumn of 2015, this research chair holds a monthly seminar, which connects researchers, presenting their work on worldwide developments in cities, with professionals and practitioners. How should we understand the organisation of space, transport, the openness to modernity, including the most 'sustainable', the most environmentally and democracy conscious? Can we avoid considering it other than from the angle of its complexity, its ambivalences? How should we consider the city in an era of networks and the Internet, in an era of domestic and international mobility? Thinking about the city involves, beyond the successive urban forms that it takes, thinking about political and economic, public and private powers, along with the dynamics of recognition and exclusion. ![]() It is a reflection of the contemporary complexity of the dynamics and discussions of its players. The city is the place in which social conflicts, social injustices, marginalisation and the construction of new identities are embodied and manifested.
